Accurately Weigh Your Dose with a Milligram Scale

It’s no secret that it’s impossible to eyeball an amount of something miniscule like a dose of medication: hopefully you didn’t have to learn that the hard way. Depending on the drug and conditions of the patient, some prescriptions will require just a partial dose. In that case, it’s crucial to have a milligram scale you can rely on to give you the most precise measurement.

There are plenty of other reasons you might want to weigh your medications other than measuring out a dose. You may want to wean yourself off of a certain medication. Tapering your dose down over time can be much more beneficial and easier to adapt to than just going off cold turkey. You can choose how much of your intake you want to reduce each day and measure it out accordingly. For example, you could taper by 10% each day.

Our Echo milligram scale guarantees precise measurements with a cover to further reduce wind interference on the powder, which is crucial when you have small amounts of material on the scale. It also has a one-touch calibration and adjustable leveling feet so you know you’re getting an accurate reading no matter where you are. It’s also durable and small enough to throw in a backpack or purse, ensuring you’ll have it on hand when you need it.

Once you have a milligram scale and you’re ready to take your dose, getting a precise measurement is as easy as 1-2-3.

 1. Calibrate the scale.

Follow the calibration instructions according to your scale’s manual. Press “calibrate,” on the scale, place the weighing tray on the scale, and then zero it out so the weight of the dish is deducted from the weight of the material you put on the scale.  2. Weigh your dose.

Gradually pour your crushed powder or dry medication to the weighing tray until the weight reflects your desired dose. Close the cover for the most accurate result. If your medication is already in a capsule, make sure you take the extra weight of the capsule into account or empty the contents of the capsule onto the tray to weigh it.

 3. Carefully collect the powder.

You might scoop it up with a capsule or use the tweezers to remove the powder from the tray. Make sure your weighing tray is clean before weighing your next dose.

The most important consideration for weighing out your own doses is absolute precision. After all, these are substances you’re putting in your body, so it has to be right! Milligram scales will help ensure you get the most accurate reading, and investing in one that has features that aid in precision like protective covers can make a big difference in the long run. As always, do your research and consult with your doctor to ensure you are following their prescription and being safe.
