5 Reasons to Use Scales in the Kitchen

Digital kitchen scales – why do you need them?

The New Year can often be a period of resolutions where many of us choose to work on our health, wellness or career (and sometimes all three!). Getting back to eating well is often a main focus after a period of celebration in the run up to Christmas and New Year. With an eye to helping you achieve your goals we have put together a top 5 list of reasons to use a digital scale in the kitchen. It will come as no surprise to anyone trying to get on top of healthy eating that scales can be an essential tool in helping you to achieve success.

1. Support healthy eating with portion control

A recent study in the UK showed while much emphasis has been put on what type of food to eat in order to bring weight under control, the element of portion control has been lost or forgotten about. A campaign was launched to use hands rather than scales. Here at Truweigh, call us biased, but we feel that digital scales still play a vital role in correct portion control. For example, did you know that a healthy portion size for pasta is 3-4 ounces per person?

A national survey in the USA of more than 6,000 adults showed that people who measured their food were more successful at losing weight and keeping it off than those who did not.

2. Use a digital kitchen scale to reduce mess and waste

Another reason to use scales in the kitchen is to keep mess and waste to a minimum. Rather than using lots of different bowls to estimate food amounts, you can build up ingredients for a recipe using your scale bowl, simply by pressing TARE each time.

One of our own kitchen scales, the Vortex, also has a handy pour section in its bowl and is dishwasher safe, making it even easy to clean up after cooking.

3. Accuracy is important when measuring food for baking and healthy eating

Accuracy is key both in terms of eating the correct amount of food and when baking. This is where the example of using hand measurements is a little tricky.  People are all different shapes and sizes, but using a kitchen scale really allows you to be accurate in your portions.

With baking, this is even more vital. Baking is a very precise skill. To get the best possible cake texture and flavor, the ingredients truly need to be weighed out accurately, to avoid a soggy bottom or an uncooked mixture.

4. Digital kitchen scales are a low-cost, but essential tool for cooking

Digital kitchen scales are quite affordable compared to other kitchen gadgets. There are a wide variety of options that offer a cost-effective solution for any budget. If you are trying to make healthy changes to your body, using a kitchen scale can be one of the most valuable tools in achieving this for a comparatively low investment.

5. Better tasting coffee when you weigh

Are you a true coffee fan? Its even thought that using a digital scale to weigh your coffee can ensure a better flavor and a more consistent taste. By being able to measure to within 0.1g it means that you can be sure you will have a perfect cup every time.

Quality you can measure

Here at Truweigh, we have two different options for digital kitchen scales, the Vortex and the Crimson. The Vortex digital bowl scale features a compact design and dishwasher-safe weighing bowl for a variety of home uses. The weighing bowl stores over the scale when not in use and protects the weighing platform. Results are easy to read on the white, back-lit LCD in any lighting condition.

The Crimson digital mini scale includes a large collapsible silicone bowl and latching cover for incredible versatility. The silicone bowl contains and protects the scale when collapsed, keeping it safe from knocks and bumps. When fully expanded, the bowl provides a comfortably large volume for you to weigh your items in.
